SOMIRA was founded in 2000 to carry on the long tradition of whaleboat rowing and racing in the Bay Area

The USS Arizona whaleboat rowing team in 1941.

The Buckingham, one of our first boats, was donated to us by The California Maritime Academy. Here she is being retired and returned to Mare Island where she was built over 100 years ago.

Thanks to Mare Island Brewing she has a new life in the Whaleboat room!
